Today’s featured photo is “Durango/Silverton Train 473”. The hubby and I enjoyed our visit to Colorado in October of 2021. One of our stops on our ten day trip was in Durango, CO. We spent three days in the Durango area and one of the days we rode the Durango/Silverton steam locomotive train from Durango to Silverton, CO. As the day went on it became colder and colder and snowed on us most of the way to Silverton. It was a winter wonderland and we had a blast though it was nippy taking photos from the back outside of the train!
Our journey started at 9:00am in Durango, Co and lasted all day long. The train takes about two and a half hours to get to Silverton, CO with a break for lunch and to explore the town. As our luck would have it the whole town of Silverton had lost power, so we were limited to where we could obtain lunch, but did end up with some yummy BBQ. The scenery along the way is spectacular. The train follows the Animas river (River of Soles) over gulches, winding cliffs, and beautiful forest. I highly recommend this adventure if you get a chance to visit southwest Colorado.
